Letchworth State Park

The great outdoors has never been so great

Like the Grand Canyon, this natural geological wonder was carved millions of years ago by the brute force of a river. It’s a wonder we don’t visit it more often. You can go for an afternoon or weekend and every season offers a spectacular view. Hike, picnic, swim, fish, and camp throughout much of this thousand-acre preserve. You can even dine at the Glen Iris Inn, the former home of William Pryor Letchworth. For an interesting dinner conversation, be sure to look up the story of Mary Jemison, “The White Woman of the Genesee.”

Spring is a great time to visit Letchworth Park.  The snow and rains of winter have filled the creeks and waterways, so the waterfalls are rushing at their fullest.  Hear the birds come back to life while the spring buds are opening (early!).  Even if it’s a bit rainy, there’s plenty of safe hiking along the paved and stone paths.

My wife and I just booked a cabin for the week of sept 24-29. We are bringing our daughter and granddaughter. Are there events going on in the park during this week? Thank you for you help,

Tom, I couldn’t find anything specific for that weekend, but here are a few good websites to check out for your visit:

Check out the tours at Mount Morris Dam, and it’s not too far to take a trip to Rochester for the Strong Museum of Play or to Corning to visit the Corning Museum of Glass.
