Laura Ingalls Wilder Days
Bring the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of Little House on the Prairie, to life at this one-of-a-kind festival at the Genesee Country Village & Museum. You’ll even be able to hear what it was like to appear on the TV series “Little House on the Prairie” with special guests Charlotte Stewart, the actress who portrayed teacher “Miss Beadle” in over 40 episodes and Lucy Lee Flippin, who performed as Almanzo’s sister “Eliza Jane Wilder” — Laura’s teacher and future sister-in-law during the last several seasons.
Other events include a Victorian Ladies’ Fashion Show featuring beautiful selections from the museum’s collection (you’ll learn about undergarments and headcoverings of the period as well as a history of the bustle and how it was worn). Children are encouraged to dress in historic clothing and those who do are welcome to appear with “Miss Beadle” and “Miss Wilder” in a group photo-op (bring your own camera). It’s a wonderful chance to experience life as Ms. Wilder’s characters might have, from kneading bread and churning butter to making your own corn husk dolls ($1) or running sack races.
