Greentopia 2012
What began as a weekend event in 2011 has grown to a full week of music, art, films, lectures, and and expanded festival on Saturday and Sunday. The Mission of Greentopia is: “To celebrate, educate and promote sustainability in all its forms, for better living, stronger communities and a healthier planet.” And…to have fun doing it!
-
The Greentopia Film Festival will hold showings all week at theaters around town. It showcases films that inspire audiences to create sustainable change in their own lives and communities. Before the films, enjoy the Buskers−local musicians and poets who entertain patrons before each screening.
-
The Ecofest festival (High Falls, Sept. 15-16) will feature speakers, green vendors, a farmer’s market, how-to’s, alternative fuel vehicles on display, a kids’ zone, and recycled/upcycled fashion show. Of course there will be organic food, wine and beer tastings, and free entertainment, including the world-renowned Ying Quartet.
-
On the serious side: The INNOVATION Conference on Sept. 14 will have as its keynote speaker Lt. Governor (and former Rochester mayor) Bob Duffy. Duffy will talk about the New New York Campaign as well as sustainability and innovation in Rochester and NY State.
-
Adding to the variety of events, many other organizations are participating in their own Greentopia programs including Foodlink’s Festival of Food, Rochester Cycling Alliance’s Bike the Bridges, the WXXI Open House, Sunnking’s Electronics Recycling Drive, Nazareth College’s Naz Green Day Farmers Market and The Single Origin Fashion Project sponsored by Joe Bean Coffee Roasters.
